Growing up in a Caribbean household and community, two things were always present: a deep sense of togetherness and a good lime, fete, or carnival to free up yourself.
From tuning in to WLIB on Saturdays to catch the hottest tunes from the islands, to playing steel pan, DJing parties, and even island-hopping to play Mas—these experiences shaped my love for Caribbean culture and laid the foundation for this creative journey.
Hailing from the “Gem of the Caribbean Sea,” Barbados, I’ve always been curious about its deep-rooted connection to Africa and where my journey truly began. In 2018, I took an ancestry test and discovered my lineage traces back to Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria. That revelation sparked endless thoughts and ideas, deepening my appreciation not only for Caribbean culture but also for the rich heritage of Africa. Out of this newfound understanding, two brands were born - CariKulture and Certified Feters - each representing a piece of my cultural heritage.
These brands are more than just fashion labels; they are a tribute to the rich history, achievements, arts, music, and traditions of Afro-Caribbean culture. Through fashion, we use creative self-expression as a tool for cultural celebration, education, and empowerment. But beyond style, these brands serve a greater purpose—raising awareness of social, economic, and environmental issues affecting the communities they represent. A portion of all sales supports initiatives and organizations across the Diaspora that focus on community development and meaningful change. Our goal?
To inspire future brands and generations to honor and uplift this vibrant culture.
